So the big E3 convention has been going on the last few days, and the big developers have been showing off their products. Shockingly, most of the massively hyped games are sequels. Anyway, here are a few links to demos and previews of the ones that caught my attention.
Alan Wake Demo . One of the few non-sequel games. It first appeared a few years ago, generated a lot of excitement, then fell off the radar. Now it's back with a playable demo, and it looks faaantastic.
Metroid: Other M Demo. Besides the bizarre name, this game is being developed by Team Ninja, the guys behind the excellent Ninja Gaiden games. Looks like Metroid is going in a completely new direction.
Splinter Cell: Conviction Demo. Like Alan Wake, this appeared a few years ago, but instead of interest, it generate a lot of mehs. Now the game has been totally retooled and is far more action based, brutal and gritty, with a totally new combat system.
Assassins's Creed 2 Demo. Sequel to the ambitious but ultimately boring and repetitive Assassin's Creed. I really wanted to like the original game, and it did have some excellent features, such as large, very well detailed cities and the great free running system, but the gameplay deevolved into simple and repetitive mechanics. Let's hope Ubisoft addresses these issues for #2.
CoD: Modern Warfare 2 Demo. Looks like the previous Modern Warfare game, which isn't a bad thing, and ramps up the adrenaline factor. Let's hope for more ridiculous Russian and nameless Islamic fundamentalist alliances!
Mass Effect 2 Video. The original game was an outstanding action-RPG game with one of the most epic stories ever told in a game. The sequel promises more of the same, along with better and more intense combat. If you played the original game, make sure you keep your save game files, as ME2 is promising to take your decisions from ME1 and incorporate them into the sequel. Looks great.
